Iseng-iseng memasang Openbox di Ubuntu Lucid Lynx dengan membuang semua paket Gnome demi kebutuhan distro Ubuntu super kencang. Hampir semua paket Gnome ikut terbuang, seperti totem atau paket-paket pada instalasi awal dan hasilnya layar blank (kernel panic) begitu komputer dinyalakan. Komputer dipaksa masuk lewat opsi repair dan menjalankan perintah “startx”, dan solusi untuk memperbaikinya ternyata menginstall gnome-session-manager. Windows manager Openbox yang diberikan masih benar-benar apa adanya, tanpa panel dan wallpaper. Menu klik kanan di desktop masih berfungsi. Setelah menginstall tint2 panel dan nitrogen wallpaper management, ternyata paket Jupiter yang telah diinstall pada instalasi awal belum berjalan. Dari thread ini di kaskus, saya mendapatkan perbincangan yang menarik. Sepertinya sudah menjadi rahasia umum di kalangan linuxer kalau Ubuntu itu sangat rakus daya batere, saya sendiri juga pernah mengalaminya . Dari hasil pengujian di website ini diperlihatkan bahwa Ubuntu kalah telak dengan Windows 7. Tidak hanya kalah lawan Windows 7, Ubuntu juga kalah telak dengan MacOS.

Atas rekomendasi saya dan temen saya , saya menyuruh teman saya yg lain untuk membeli Axioo. Pertimbangannya, after salesnya Axioo bagus dan barang juga tidak begitu mengecewakan, walau brand-nya tidak sekuat Dell atau HP (sory, Toshiba gw kagak maen). Sebenarnya bagus atau tidak after salesnya relatif juga, berhubung saya di Jakarta, dan pemerintah kita masih picik soal pemerataan pembangunan (terlihat dari kebijakan mobil dinasnya ). Mungkin saja stok spare part di sini sangat mudah, ketimbang di daerah2 yang musti indent dulu beberapa selang waktu.

I admit that Ubuntu Jaunty running well on my Compaq CQ40-337TU, except a small problem for sound device ( already fixed ). All devices work properly, VGA with 3D effects, WiFi device, webcam, optical drive, synaptic pointer, etc. But I notice one thing, the battery consumption with Jaunty is very bad. I search in “Mbah Google” about this problem, and found many solution to extending battery life duration. Adjust your desktop appearance without sophisticated effect (include 3d effect, which also have a same problem on Vista). This effect is cool, but it consuming too much electricity on VGA card. Decreasing your display brightness into lowest level. I can still have a clear view on laptop LCD using the lowest level brightness. Adjust CPU voltage into power save mode. If you hate to edit any script configuration, you can install kpowersave to easily adjust this configuration (monitor brightness also can be adjusted with this tools). This the update information of my previous post. Overall, I feel satisfied with Ubuntu Jaunty on my CQ40-337TU. The 3D desktop running smoothly and sophisticated. All device work well, such Wi-Fi, optical drive, and webcam. But, there is other problem which is very annoying. I read the manual about my laptop. It’s say that the battery life can reach about 4 hours 15 minutes. When I’m running Ubuntu on it, battery life can only reach about 2 hours (using 3D desktop effect, browsing activity, and USB wire modem attached). I’ve try tweaking the power consumption. First, I adjusting display brightness into lowest level. Then, switch the processor volt into power save mode. I also turn of the desktop effect (same problem with Vista on Aero mode) and WiFi device. And I got about 3 hours. Where’s another 1 hour? Any suggest for my laptop, or should I back to Vista the P1r4t3s 3d1t1on?

On computer exhibition in Jakarta (Pekan Raya Jakarta 2009), about 5 days ago (23 June 2009), I was buying a notebook. I buy a CQ series of HP-Compaq, the Presario CQ40-337TU exactly. I choose this type because it’s have a balance between the price (540$) and the quality (HP-COMPACT). I have a plan to install dual OS (XP and Linux) on it. But, I’m facing some problem. When installing XP, the installer can not found my HDD device ( I think it’s using the AHCI mode). I check my driver CD, and it’s only provide driver for VISTA. The official site also didn’t provide the driver for XP.

Iya bener… sebel bgt ma ubuntu. mo pake hardisk di partisi lain ga bisa, proteksi root. ganti icon’s ga bisa. pokoknya musti command prompt mulu. ga ada cara yg lebih instan lebih cepet pake GUI gitu kek. udah tau kita dablek banget main konsol linux. RTFM… useless bgt tuh… masa orang indonesia dikasih bahasa inggris… enakan slackware deh… enteng bener… KDE muluss. bahasa indonesia dikasih manualnya (nah yg ini bohong…).

Yang ada cuma kekosongan… Anjing komputer rusak gara2 ubuntu! semua data kehapus ga ada harapan berasa mau mati aja untung bukan komputer gua
